Kurukshetra district lies between latitude 29-52' to 30- 12' and longitude 76-26' to 77-04' in the North Eastern part of Haryana State. The district headquarter is located at Kurukshetra town and is about 160 Kilometers North of Delhi, 39 Kilometers North of Karnal and 40 Kilometers South of Ambala. It is at a distance of about 6 kilometer from Pipli an important road junction on the National Highway No.1 popularly called the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road ). Kurukshetra Railway Station is located on main Delhi-Ambala Railway line. The other important towns of the district are Pehowa, Shahbad & Ladwa. The district consists of 419 villages.
The closest airport is at Chandigarh, 100 kilometres away.
Rail
There are direct trains from Mumbai to Kurukshetra. 2925 Paschim Express (daily) departs from Mumbai Central at 11.35 am and reaches Kurukshetra at 13.45 the next day. The other direct train is the 1057 Dadar Amritsar Express (daily) which departs from Dadar at 22.40 and reaches Kurukshetra at 7.45 on the second day. The other railhead close to Kurukshetra is Ambala Cantonment, a distance of 44 kilometres. There are also a number of trains going north from Delhi, which halt at Kurukshetra.
Road
Delhi-Kurukshetra is 160 kilometres. The Grand Trunk Road on the Ambala-Chandigarh route takes about three and half-hours by bus. There are a number of buses available for Kurukshetra from the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Buses of Haryana Roadways, Punjab Roadways, Delhi Transport Corporation run round the clock.
